Stuart was born in Buckinghamshire in 1968. Following early studies in graphic design he worked as an assistant animator at Pinewood Studios. He then spent several years in video post-production before becoming involved in the technical coordination of short courses at the National Film & Television School.

A desire to return to his art prompted a move to St. Ives, Cornwall at the beginning of 1998. Her alongside his partner Claire, Stuart opened The Chalk House, a small contemporary gallery selling his own work and the works of many crafts people from around the many parts of the UK.

The Chalk House closed in 2005 and Stuart began lecturing part-time at Truro College.

He continues to paint and is represented by galleries all over the country and shows at a variety of exhibitions throughout the year. His work is to be found in private collections in America, Australia, Germany, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
