biography

I was born in Cornwall in 1981 and grew up a stone's throw from the sea. Predictably the ocean is probably my biggest influence. I also draw inspiration from music, snippets of conversation, travel and current affairs. I studied photography and graphic design at a local college.

My style is firmly rooted in both these mediums, growing from scruffy journals stuffed with photos and drawings, to canvases. My approach to painting is very open-minded, nothing is ever pre-planned. I build up blocks and layers of colours either with coarse DIY brushes, a palette knife or if all else fails, my hands! Painting onto block canvases, I use a mixture of acrylics, gouache, ink, aerosols, oil sticks and just about anything else capable of making a mark on a surface.

I combine my love of words with my paints to give a sense of place and to create an alternative view of the Cornish coastline.
