Julia Brooks
B.1979, St. Peterport, Guernsey
Julia Brooks' current paintings are predominantly based on still-life scenes, with a focus on colour and light. As a young painter, she is still developing her style and technique, however, her interest in rendering tone is a key feature of her work. This is expressed through planes of gradiated, solid colour. “Before i begin a painting, i spend some time looking closely at the subjects i have chosen to depict, paying particular attention to how the light plays across their surfaces. I then mix up a series of similar hues with a limited range of colours and decide on a rough colour scheme. This scheme evolves as i paint and is complete only when all of the tones and colours are balanced together. “
