Siddy Langley

We chose Siddy simply because she is one of Britain’s foremost and established glassmakers.

She works from idyllic settings in Devon living in thatched cottage with a detached large glass studio overlooking the countryside that surrounds her.  She also has a collection of animals including dog(s) and a wide variety of chicken running free.

In her studio, however, she has one very special pet called Izzy which is featured on many pieces of her glass – Izzy is a gecko – quite happy keeping Siddy company while she works.

Siddy left Maidenhead to live in Devon in 1997 where she set up Alchemy Glass.

Having blown glass for nearly 30 years Siddy has a wide range of experience since qualifying and was an apprentice Peter Layton and a glass maker at the London Glassblowing Workshop.

Working with molten glass gathered from the furnace and precious metals such as gold, silver and tin, Siddy applies the decoration to the glass before it is blown so it grows with the piece that is being made to form delicate and intricate patterns.. ‘The lovely thing about making glass is that it combines all the elements – earth, wind, fire and water, and as such seems a wholly natural process'.

We hope you will love the pieces of Siddy’s work we have carefully selected for  the Seascape Gallery.
