Steve Harrison - A Potter with Passion

One of the things we like to do is to get to know our artists and we must admit that Steve has tremendous drive, passion and love for making his ceramics.  Speaking to Steve and his enthusiasm for his work is amazing – he is so lucky to have found a career which he simply adores so much.

Steve loves to get an idea and works hard at achieving a fantastic end result.  Every single piece of ceramic is different and unique – literally – but of the same style.

He loves to use historic techniques and trained for seven years at the Royal College of Art.

Working mainly in salt glaze, stoneware or porcelain Steve’s work is outstanding.

Sometimes he produces limited edition pieces – such as the boxed mug for sale on the Seascape Gallery website.   The box is made from Bur Walnut by Ben Casson (Mick Casson’s son who Steve worked alongside) and naturally the mug by Steve.  There was a limited edition of just 22.

More recently, Steve decided to hold a Retrospective Show at his house which took two years to plan and spanned 20 years of pot making.  Displaying his earliest pieces of work up to his most current firings and his drawings and ideas.  It simply was amazing to see.

Held over three days, he arranged for different musicians to play each day and  served Wine Spritzers in his special wine mugs – which kept it cooler than traditional wine glasses.

Steve’s work is amazing and a joy to own and use.  He is always happy to undertake commissions.
